Hertz is the best car compay that I have ever used. I recently had a bad altercation with their competitor, Enterprise that left me looking for a new car company. I was so plesantly suprised when I found Hertz! Their employees are professional, courtious, and even fun! Their cars are of much better quality than the competition and I spent half the time getting the paperwork done and out to my car than when I was using Enterprise. Overall, I would give them a 5 out of 5 I couldn't be happier, and I loved my car!

In February 2008 my husband had a heart attack and I had to return the rental car or take it on to Idaho as he could not fly. they wanted $850 in charges to take it to Idaho. I talked to the manager in Las Vegas and he was very hard curt and would not help me. I called Hertz and they put me in a SUV for a total of $167 to get my husband to Boise and home. It was very difficult and Dollar failed us. Hertz is a hero.

Sent the following to Hertz (after being ripped off by them), they thanked me for my request and cancelled my Gold Club membership! DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ! Booked a midsize (Mazda 6), but was given a Corolla (compact), and when I questioned the car assigned, I was told 'That's what I have for you sir.'. I was then charged an extra $10/day to 'upgrade' to the car I originally booked. The car had a broken Sirius satellite system installed, which I did not ask for or want, and this was not noted when I booked the car. I was charged an extra $4/day when I returned the car for a broken satellite radio system that I did not book or want, this on TOP of the extra $10 day to get the car I originally booked. This 'bait and switch' will not go unnoticed, as I will be posting my experience on Travelocity, Expedia, etc., and I will be posting a corporate mandate for my company (9 locations throughout the world - lots of travel and rentals) to NOT rent from Hertz, as the company resorts to 'bait and switch' tactics, and is not reputable. Please cancel my club membership immediately, I have already done 2 other rentals (with Avis - who were MUCH better to deal with and gave me the car I booked and did not charge for extras that I did not book or want) and will never again do business with Hertz (nor will anyone at my corporation, or any other person that reads any of the over 90 reports I will be filing to warn of your questionable business tactics). WORST COMPANY EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE! JK ex- Hertz Club member

NEVER EVER USE HERTZ!!!!!!!!!! They had confirmed a car delivery to my home. 2 hours and several calls later they said they had no car available. I asked if they would pay for a taxi to my destination and they said no. Totally unacceptable. To make matters worse, they told me that the same thing had happened to several other customers that day. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL.

Hertz has a real scam going on with renewal and/or late return of their vehicles. We reserved a vehicle over the internet with Hertz for a daily rate of $17.99. When we went to pick up the car, however, I realized that I had only reserved the car for one day, when we needed it for one day and four hours. I asked the woman at the counter what the late return would cost. She was clearly avoiding the question, as she kept saying she would check. I had to ask three times - the last time after the transaction was complete. It was $83.44! I called the Hertz national hotline. The recording said that if I wanted to keep the car for an extra day, I could and would simply be charged the contractual amount. I also called the local store, where I spoke with the manager. They confirmed that, If I wanted to turn the car in, they could immediately rent me the same vehicle at their normal daily rate of $19.49, but if I wanted to keep the car, they would charge me $83. No exceptions, no shame. The Hertz manager kept giving me some line about the critical distinction between a renewal and a new rental, but Hertz's real purpose was clear - to take advantage of people who don't check the renewal rate and assume, as with other car rentals, that it is the same as the regular daily rate. We ended up going to the airport five hours before our flight boarded, and lost half a day out of a two day vacation. I will never rent Hertz again, and suggest you don't either!

We were going on vacation and had vehicle trouble 60 mile from home. We called AAA and they towed us to Goodyear AZ and suggested Hertz for a rental car company. AAA connected me to Hertz and I explained I had 3 adults and two dogs with me and I needed a larger vehicle. Hertz reserved a Monte Carlo "or similar" vehicle. Hertz came and picked me up from the repair shop in a very dirty pickup truck, took me back to their office so I could get a vehicle and sign the paperwork. They offered me a Nissan Altima; which seemed very small. They also offered me a Nissan Pathfinder or the Ford crewcab truck they picked me up in. I decided to accept the Pathfinder which also was very very dirty both on the outside and on the inside, but best accommodated my suitcases, people and dogs. The manager had been driving the vehicle and said that the check engine light would go out after awhile because the last people that drove it left the gas cap loose. The car had old appointment cards, drink cups and general trash on the inside. The floormats were dirty, the headliner had caked on mud, and the exterior had not been washed for days and had road grim. After driving for awhile the light did go out. We went on vacation and after driving for awhile the check engine light did go out. We returned the car on the specified date filled with gas, the agent told me that the car was dirty and it had been detailed the day I picked it up. I told him about the mud on the headliner, the trash in the car, etc that was all there when I picked up the vehicle, and there was no way it had been detailed the day I got it. After all this he told me I would be fined and charged for cleaning the car if I didn't take it and get it cleaned. I did then take it to the closest car wash and spent my time and money on getting the car in way better shape than what I received it in. So I will not rent a vehicle from Hertz again. This is ridiculous, I paid for the rental, I bought their overpriced insurance and brought the car back on time and filled with gas and they want me to do their cleaning - not acceptable. Lesson learned TAKE PICTURES of inside and outside before accepting a rental car. Rent from someone else.

Rented a SUV from hertz for 24 hours in Vegas. The return directions indicated to leave the keys in the car and leave the car at return location for late night returns. Even though I returned the car within 24 hours I was charged for 2 days. Now when I am trying to reach out to location manager to get billing corrected they are no where to be found. it's as if I was charged for service I didn't use and now I cannot get my money back.
