Krish United States/California/Sunnyvale [Aug 13, 2007] I will never go Advantage rent a car , seattle airport location.
Worst customer relations, and pathetic car rental process.
Their car rental process takes atleast 20 minutes for a simple rental and God help, if there are complications like driving to Canada, etc.
I will never rent from them again. It is better to pay more and rent from the bigger agencies as, they must be a little easier to speak to..
My worst car rental nightmare..

Jackson United States/Iowa/Des Moines [Mar 25, 2008] We had a very good experience renting at the Phoenix airport. The vehicle was ready, clean and like new. The rate was the best I could find and actually was lower than the online quote. The agent was courteous. I would rent again from Advantage. |
Mark United States/Denver/Colorado [Mar 27, 2008] Beware of any ‘special’ offers from Advantage! I found a great internet special and ending paying 3x’s what I was quoted and put up with the worst customer service imaginable.
I was flying into Denver, Colorado on a three day trip and needed to rent a car to travel to Breckenridge. I found a internet special from Advantage offering a Spring Break special which would waive the young driver’s fee. It was valid in 13 states including Colorado. I booked the car through the link on the website and had no issues. I received the confirmation the day before with a charge showing $0 for the young driver’s fee.
When I arrived at the Denver airport at almost midnight I was charged 3X’s what I was quoted because the Young Driver’s fee was not waived. The manager accused me of making up the deal arguing that it was illegal to waive young driver’s fees. The following day I called customer service to get the charge refunded. Again, I was greeted by a rude, combative agent that didn’t believe the special existed. She almost hung up on me, but I forced her to type in the website. She read the special back to me and then abruptly put me on hold when she read the young driver’s fee was waived. Twenty minutes later she came back the phone to tell me that Denver did not participate in the special. Isn’t Denver in Colorado??? … stated specifically in the special? Apparently not… I was told it was my responsibility to verify the specials they offered were actually honored before I traveled. Not giving up, I called once more a few days later hoping to get a better customer service agent. This time, Denver was included in the special, but they couldn’t change my charges because the account was closed!!!
Moral of the story is… avoid Advantage at all costs! |

mistydogg United States/Virginia/Roanoke [Jun 09, 2008] On a recent trip to New Mexico, Utah and Colorado I rented from Advantage, because of the slight savings it offered compared with the major, national rental companies. The wait at the Albuquerque counter was almost an hour, for that one agent on duty (There were about a dozen people behind me waiting too). I had significant mechanical problems with my car several hundred miles from any of Advantage's offices. Neither the original rental office in Albuquerque nor the national help line offered much assistance. It was as if they had never dealt with a problem such as mine before. I spent almost an entire day trying to resolve my difficulty.
This was an unusual circumstance with an almost new rental car. Still, WHEN YOU RENT FROM ADVANTAGE YOU DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. This company is totally unprepared for rental problems of any sort and has TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I plan to stick to the major, national rental companies in the future. |

JOikawa United States/California/MV [Jul 21, 2008] $106 a week for a car rental in Cancun sounds like a great deal?
You will not think so when at the end of the week you walk out of their office with a bill for $420.
How does a $106 a week “deal” turns into $420?
Easy.
First they’ll “shuttle” you in an unmarked car to their dingy and isolated office in the middle of no-where, where you’ll be notified that the advertised deal does not include the “mandatory” third party liability insurance of $14 a day (the highest on any rental company).
Then, when you have no choice and no where else to go, they’ll inform you of the 30% in taxes and fees including an “airport fee” (event though their office is no-where near any airport and they don’t even have a real official airport shuttle).
Next, they will convert the total into Mexican pesos using an exchange rate close to 20% higher than the official legal rate.
And when you return the car at the end of your vacation and think the pillage and plunder is over .. beware!…... They will suddenly “discover” a year old scratch on the bottom of the car’s front bumper for which they will blame no one but you!!!
And don’t complain, as I mistakenly did, because the friendly “manager” will raise the amount of “damages” from 600 pesos to 1000….and even add taxes on top of that!!!!
Stay away from this company unless you enjoy being openly ripped off . |
LM United States/CO/Denver [Aug 31, 2008] Never rent from this company. They use deceptive marketing and selling practices, and will charge you for everything extra that they can, even when you have explictly said you don't want the various little add-ons they attempt to push on you to increase the fee. Their cars are cheap and poorly maintained as well. So, while they might seem to have cheaper prices, in the end you'll end up paying more, get horrible customer service, and be stuck with a well-used car. Better to go with Hertz and Avis and pay a bit more for something reliable, and a company that does not cheat you. |

Marguerite Czajka United States/Texas/Fort Worth [Nov 08, 2008] I rented a car from Advantage at DFW for 4 days. Their estimate was for $24 a day, with the notification of "Extra hour $15, extra day $99.99" I returned it 3 hours late - to my surprise they charged me $99.99! I called and they said anything over 59 minutes is an extra day. I asked why they even mention the hourly rate - she said because it sometimes applies but couldn't say when. I sent in a complaint on their web site and got no response. Other problems - they told me at the counter at fill-up charge was $2.39 which was "way cheaper" than at gas stations. Gas at the stations was $2.29 - $2,49! The map they gave me only showed the locations of Advantage rental offices - useless for navigating. I will NEVER use them again! |
